2022 Jeep Wagoneer Price, Value, Ratings & Reviews | Kelley Blue Book (2024)

Price: The 2022 Jeep Wagoneer starts at $58,845.

The Jeep Wagoneer is an all-new model for 2022. It’s a luxurious SUV that’s 10 inches longer than the new Jeep Grand Cherokee L. This new Wagoneer seats up to eight in three rows of seats, and its chassis features a rugged truck-style ladder frame with independent rear suspension.

Power comes from a 5.7-liter e-Torque V8 and a 48-volt mild hybrid system, putting out 392 horsepower and a substantial 404 lb-ft of torque. This gasoline engine with electric assist helps to give the new Wagoneer a laudable max towing capacity of 10,000 pounds, aided by a proven 8-speed automatic transmission.

Don’t confuse the 2022 Jeep Wagoneer new Grand Wagoneer. Although both new models are the same size and arrive at the same time later this year, the Grand Wagoneer is a far more luxurious model, a 4-wheel-drive (4WD) version powered by a 6.4-liter V8 with 471 horsepower. The 2022 Grand Wagoneer, with distinct styling and an almost decadent level of luxury, is reviewed separately on KBB.com.

The new Wagoneer, though, stands on its own just fine. Wearing a name that dates back to the hallowed original luxury Jeep SUV of 1963, the Wagoneer also boasts leather upholstery and a broad assortment of safety and driver-assist technologies. It can be ordered as a 7-seater with center-row captain’s chairs or an 8-seater with a center bench.

Competitors for the 2022 Jeep Wagoneer include the GMC Yukon Denali, Cadillac Escalade, and the Lincoln Navigator.

Jeep says “Wagoneer” will become a portfolio of vehicles that redefines “American premium.” Will the new 2022 Wagoneer support that lofty goal? Let’s take a look.

Driving the Used 2022 Jeep Wagoneer

KBB enjoyed a brief test drive in a 2022 Wagoneer, which is powered by an eTorque version of the 5.7-liter Hemi V8 with 392 horsepower and 404 lb-ft of torque.

Although this isn’t the big 6.4-liter V8 found in the almighty Grand Wagoneer, this mild-hybrid V8 powertrain feels totally at home in the standard Wagoneer. Acceleration is brisk, the shifts are almost imperceptible, and the fuel-saving automatic restarts are remarkably smooth. What’s more, the max tow capacity with the proven 5.7-liter V8 is an impressive 10,000 pounds.

On an off-road course, the Wagoneer acquitted itself nicely. It’s a long vehicle, which makes tight turns a bit tricky, but this big new body-on-frame SUV climbed rocky grades with composure and negotiated some deeply rutted sections of trail with nary a concern. It’s aided by five traction control settings: Auto, Sport, Rock, Snow, and Sand/Mud settings.

At the same time, the Wagoneer impresses on the road. It’s quiet and comfortable, and the controls all operate with satisfying precision. At 70 mph, it feels like you’re going about 50. Wind noise is practically nonexistent, even with the large rearview mirrors.

This is a super comfortable 3-row body-on-frame SUV, and it coddles as hard as it works. With its 26.5-gallon fuel tank, the new Wagoneer has a driving range of 583 miles, which should give you more than ample time to personalize the numerous digital settings.

Although the new 2022 Grand Wagoneer looks related to the new Jeep Grand Cherokee L, it’s a very different vehicle. With its separate body and frame, it’s a truck at heart. But it’s also blessed with a roomy 3-row body that’s outfitted more like a roomy luxury sedan.

Interior Comfort

Jeep has spent much effort making sure the Wagoneer interior is a special place with cut-above styling and premium levels of luxury. As such, the interior is highlighted by Nappa leather upholstery and a one-piece dash with a digital instrument cluster and either a 10.1-inch or a 12.0-inch reconfigurable Uconnect 5 infotainment screen.

Uconnect5 is five times faster than the previous infotainment system, and it comes with Tom-Tom navigation, five user profiles, and eight standard USB ports (or 11 if you order the rear-seat entertainment package). What’s more, wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto is standard, along with a wireless smartphone charging pad and a WiFi hotspot for up to eight devices.

The new Wagoneer seats 8 in standard form, but it’s also available as a 7-seater with center-row captain’s chairs. The front seats, with 12-way power adjustability, feature controls on the interior door panels, a la Mercedes-Benz. The middle-row seats slide forward to ease access to the 3rd row, which folds flat and accommodates a 6-footer easily.

Jeep says there’s 39 inches of headroom in the far back of the new Wagoneer, with 36 inches of legroom. A GMC Yukon Denali, for comparison, is a bit tighter back there, with 38.2 inches of 3rd-row headroom and 34.9 inches of legroom.

In cargo room, the new Wagoneer and Yukon Denali are close. The Wagoneer has 27.4 cubic feet of cargo space in back, which increases to 70.8 when the seat is folded. Max capacity, with both rows folded, is 116.7 cubic feet.

The Yukon Denali has 25.5 cubic feet of space behind its 3rd row, and 72.6 when that seat is folded. With both rows folded, the Yukon has a total cargo volume of 122.9 cubic feet.

Exterior Styling

We think the new Wagoneer looks elegant without being retro. On the other hand, some clearer links to the beloved 1963 original Wagoneer would have been welcome.

That stated, the new Wagoneer clearly has a premium look. Its 2-box silhouette is classic Jeep, and we like the large side windows and how the classic 7-slot grille grill cants forward to pay subtle homage to the original.

Other welcome details include trapezoidal wheel arches and a beltline that runs all the way around the Wagoneer. Twenty-inch wheels are standard; 22s are optional.

Also standard are LED headlamps and taillamps, plus skid plates and a steel side step. In addition to the dimensional Wagoneer lettering front and rear, this big new luxurious Jeep wagon has subtle little American flags incorporated into its side badging, perhaps reminding us that it’s built in Warren, Michigan.

The optional all-terrain package comes with exposed front tow hooks that make Jeep’s biggest SUV look like it’s ready to tackle any task. While the Wagoneer certainly has some decent capability off-road, this Jeep has not earned a “Trail Rated” badge yet.

Favorite Features

AMAZON FIRE TV
Want to keep the kids happy on that long road trip? Have them stream their favorite TV shows! It’s possible with the Wagoneer’s Fire TV for Auto, which allows folks to stream their favorite shows or movies. Start watching a movie at home, then finish it on the road. The Wagoneer driver can view Fire TV entertainment only when the Wagoneer is in Park.

FRONT-PASSENGER TOUCHSCREEN
The Wagoneer is available with a large touchscreen on the right side of the dash, directly ahead of the front passenger. It’s a multitalented touchscreen that allows that person to control the navigation and music, while also managing other entertainment options like the available Fire TV for Auto. Also, the lucky front passenger can monitor the Wagoneer’s 360-degree camera system or even do an internet search using the HDMI plug and a smartphone.

Standard Features

In late-arriving Series I Standard form, the 2022 Jeep Wagoneer is a rear-wheel-drive (RWD) model with the 5.7-liter e-Torque V8, 8-speed automatic transmission, a power tailgate, and a 10.1-inch Uconnect 5 touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay/Auto.

When you order the Series II Standard Wagoneer (2WD or 4WD), the Wagoneer adds a 9-speaker Alpine audio system, tri-zone climate control, and Nappa leather bench seats.

As a Series II Premium, the Wagoneer comes with 22-inch alloy wheels, the front-passenger screen, tri-zone climate control, Nappa leather seats, and a rear-seat entertainment package with dual 10.1-inch rear screens and Amazon Fire TV for Auto (4WD only). This Wagoneer also has a trailer tow package, a tri-pane sunroof, parallel and perpendicular parking programs, the 360-degree surround-view camera, and a head-up display.

In Series III Off-road form (4WD only), the Wagoneer is equipped with a thorough all-terrain package that includes Quadra-Lift air suspension, 20-inch alloy wheels, a 2-speed transfer case, a 3.92:1 rear-axle, an electronic limited-slip differential, and skid plates for the front suspension, fuel tank, and transfer case. Also included: a 19-speaker McIntosh audio system, the front-passenger screen, the towing package, the 360-degree surround-view camera system, power side steps, the parking programs, and Intersection Collision Assist.

As a Series III Premium (2WD or 4WD), Jeep’s top new Wagoneer model comes with 22-inch wheels and a 19-speaker McIntosh MX950 audio system, plus the front-passenger screen, tri-zone climate control, and the rear-seat entertainment group with Amazon Fire TV for Auto (4WD only). This Wagoneer flagship also comes with a heavy-duty towing package, a tri-pane sunroof, power side steps, the parking-assist programs, the 360-degree camera system, and Intersection Collision Assist.

Factory Options

Most of the Wagoneer’s significant options come in packages. Among the most notable is the Advanced All-Terrain Package ($2,295 on Series II, $1,095 on Series III), which includes four aluminum skid plates – for the lower front fascia, the fuel tank, the transfer case, and the front suspension.

Quadra-Lift air suspension also can be ordered. It’s bundled with the Advance All-Terrain Package and an available Convenience Group for the Series II model. At its highest setting, it provides the new Wagoneer with up to 10 inches of ground clearance. All Quadra-Lift models get Selec-Terrain traction management with these driver-selectable modes: Auto, Sport, Rock, Snow, and Sand/Mud settings.

Painted or polished 22-inch alloy wheels also are available on the new Wagoneer.

Engine & Transmission

One engine propels the 2022 Wagoneer – a 5.7-liter e-Torque V8. Augmented by a belt-driven 48-volt mild hybrid system that provides smooth automatic restarts and some extra off-the-line torque, this iron-block 5.7-liter V8 produces 392 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 404 lb-ft of torque at 3,950 rpm. That reaches the wheels via a proven 8-speed automatic transmission. Max tow capacity is 10,000 pounds.

Three 4WD systems are available.

Quadra-Trac I has a single-speed transfer case and a 40/60 front/rear torque split.

Quadra-Trac II comes with a 2-range transfer case with low-range gearing. It senses wheel slippage and sends power to the wheel (or wheels) with the best traction. It can even alter the throttle response for better control in slippery conditions.

Quadra-Drive II also has a 2-range transfer case with low gearing, but it comes with an electronic limited-slip rear differential in place of the standard limited-slip diff found on the other models.

All Jeep Wagoneers equipped with Quadra-Trac II or Quadra-Drive II come with Selec-Terrain, which offers these five driver-selectable modes: Auto, Sport, Rock, Snow, and Sand/Mud.

KBB Vehicle Review and Rating Methodology

Our Expert Ratings come from hours of both driving and number crunching to make sure that you choose the best car for you. We comprehensively experience and analyze every new SUV, car, truck, or minivan for sale in the U.S. and compare it to its competitors. When all that dust settles, we have our ratings.

We require new ratings every time an all-new vehicle or a new generation of an existing vehicle comes out. Additionally, we reassess those ratings when a new-generation vehicle receives a mid-cycle refresh — basically, sprucing up a car in the middle of its product cycle (typically, around the 2-3 years mark) with a minor facelift, often with updates to features and technology.

Rather than pulling random numbers out of the air or off some meaningless checklist, KBB’s editors rank a vehicle to where it belongs in its class. Before any car earns its KBB rating, it must prove itself to be better (or worse) than the other cars it’s competing against as it tries to get you to spend your money buying or leasing.

Our editors drive and live with a given vehicle. We ask all the right questions about the interior, the exterior, the engine and powertrain, the ride and handling, the features, the comfort, and of course, about the price. Does it serve the purpose for which it was built? (Whether that purpose is commuting efficiently to and from work in the city, keeping your family safe, making you feel like you’ve made it to the top — or that you’re on your way — or making you feel like you’ve finally found just the right partner for your lifestyle.)

We take each vehicle we test through the mundane — parking, lane-changing, backing up, cargo space and loading — as well as the essential — acceleration, braking, handling, interior quiet and comfort, build quality, materials quality, reliability.
