There are three parts to this recipes. The first is cooking the shrimp, the second is creating the shrimp salad using the cooked shrimp, and the third is toasting the bread and filling with the tasty shrimp salad.

It’s a really simple and flavorful recipe that during spring and summer we can’t get enough of! It’s so fresh and easy to make that we come back to this over and over again!

This recipe is truly so simple and so delicious!

What is a shrimp roll?

This version is a sandwich in the same style of a New England lobster roll. It is comprised of a toasted bun filled with shrimp salad.

Not to be confused with the spring roll type of shrimp roll that is shrimp and veggies wrapped in rice wrappers, or a sushi shrimp tempura roll.

What to serve with shrimp rolls?

Besides some tasty chips or fries, I recommend a cucumber salad, corn on the cob, roasted veggies, coleslaw, or some pasta salad.

Variations:

  • Main Protein: Use crab or lobster instead of shrimp.
  • Eat the shrimp salad out of a bread bowl instead of in a sandwich.
  • Fillings: Try different mustards, add some hard-boiled eggs, or dice some pickles or diced red onions for some extra zing!
  • Add some butter lettuce or tomatoes to the sandwich.

How to serve shrimp rolls?

These are best eaten cold after the shrimp has had time to meld with the dressing flavors. Toast the bread but don’t add the shrimp salad until you are ready to eat to preserve the crispiness of the bread.

How to store shrimp salad?

Store the salad in the refrigerate in an air tight container.

How long do shrimp sandwiches last?

The shrimp salad will last 3-4 days in the refrigerator but is best eaten fresh.

Notes

Tips and Tricks

  • Chives- just omit and use only green onions if you don't have chives.
  • Dill- fresh tastes the best but dried works great too!
  • Storage: The shrimp salad is best when eaten the day you make it but will keep for 3-4 days in the refrigerator.
  • Don't let the shrimp salad sit out too long or else the mayo might spoil! Best to keep it refrigerated until ready to eat!
