MILK: The Dairy Council for Northern Ireland (DCNI) has said it will “raise a glass” to the dairy sector this World Milk Day, which takes place tomorrow (Saturday, June 1).

A man
named Thomas O’Connor, from Rathkeale, county Limerick, or Askeaton, had been cured. He had been using a wooden leg, fastened to his knee, for the last nine years. On his first visit to Knock he was enabled, with the aid of a stick which he had, to walk away from the scene, leaving the wooden leg behind him. Another young man, George Culhane, from Rathkeale, county Limerick, had his knee
dislocated. The knee was inflamed and quite stiff. He was now, however, as active in his limbs as any man in Ireland, and walked as gracefully as a young officer. One of the most remarkable case, however, he considered, -was that of a man who had a ‘ polypus in his throat. He had been to three or four physicians in his own locality, but they could HOT frnderAtand it. One of
the most celebratedphysicians in Cork (ArchdeaconCavanagh had forgotten his name) had visited Culhane, and by means of some reflecting instrument was enabled to see down his throat, and he saw that it was a polypus that was inside it, and advised that to save the man’s life it would be necessary to perform an operation, either internally or externally, and that either would be most dangerous. A DISTINGUISHED KERRY PRIEST IN THE STATES.
The Rev. John Fitzmaurice, D.D., Rector of the Theological Seminary of St. Charles
Borromeo, at Overbrook, has been appointed Coadjutor to the Bishop of Erie, United
States. He was born at Newtownsandes, County Kerry, Ireland, in February, 1839.
When he was 15 years of ago he entered law offices in Dublin, and studied there for four years, at the end of which he went to the States, where he studied for the priesthood. On December 22, 1862, he was ordained to the priesthood by Archbishop Wood. The rev. gentleman has numerous
relations living in the County of Kerry.

Obituary
MRS. J. MULVIHILL Mrs. Johanna Mulvihill, 55 Pine-street, North Ipswich, who passed away on February 24, was born at Newtownsandes, County Kerry, Ireland in 1862. She was married In Ireland and sailed for Australia on the S.S. Duke of Buccleuch, arriving in September, 1883. She lived In Ipswich for a number of years, also Toowoomba, Lowood, Macalister, and other towns on the western line, finally returning to North Ipswich, where she resided for the last 42 years. Mrs. Mulvihill was buried in the Ipswich Cemetery on Wednesday. Monsignor Baldwin officiated.

WEATHER: The impacts of El Nino and La Nina are almost a mirror image in the Southern Hemisphere. Chile and Argentina tend to get drought during La Nina, while the same phase leads to more rain in the Amazon. Australia had severe flooding during the last La Nina. La Nina also favors the Indian monsoon, meaning above-average rainfall. The effects aren’t immediate, however. Why You’re So Bad at Giving and Receiving Compliments
Over a decade ago, I remember reading a story that stuck with me. I think it was connected to the famous Harvard Study on Adult Development that studied a group of men across their lifetimes, but I can no longer find the reference. A much-beloved doctor, upon his retirement, was given a notebook filled with letters of praise and appreciation from his patients. After he received it, he put it up in his attic, and never opened it or read the letters.

DEATHS: The analysis suggests there were 52 excess deaths in 2020 and 1,026 in 2021.
There were 33,870 deaths in 2020 compared to an expected 33,818. In 2021, a total of 34,844 deaths were registered, up from the expected 33,818.
It is the third report on excess mortality in Ireland during the pandemic, each of which used separate data and employed different methods for calculation coming up with different results.

NORMANDY: weather observations by Maaureen Sweeneyat Blacksod Point, Co. Mayo in 1944 changed the timings of the D-Day landings, Maureen Sweeney, nee Flavin born Knockanure, died aged 100 on 17th December 2023. On June 6, 1944, under the command of General Dwight Eisenhower, hundreds of thousands of American, British, Canadian and free French soldiers stormed the beaches of Normandy, which were heavily defended by German fortifications. There were over 10,000 casualties among the young men who landed on the beaches that day. Nearly 5,000 people, more than half Americans, gave their lives, dying in the effort to create a beachhead from which France would be freed from the grip of German occupation.
